July isn’t exactly known as a big sports month. For the most part baseball gets top billing this month while football fans count the days until their sport returns.
It doesn’t mean there’s a void in the sports world however. Between World Cup soccer, the Tour de France, tennis and golf there’s plenty going on. If you think outside the “Big 4.”
I’ve talked to many people over the years who tell me they’re not sports fans, and then comment about how much they love soccer, cycling or the Olympics. Um. Those are sports. Which makes them sports fans. There’s no criteria for being a sports fan. Taking an interest in a sport, player or outcome can constitute fandom.
So if you’re missing out on football, basketball and hockey highlights this month expand your horizons. If you don’t give a hoot about those sports anyway this could be the perfect month for you to follow other sports.
