I usually wait until Friday to post success stories, but I am too excited to wait.  Yesterday, I posted my weekly list of conversation starters, which included a NASCAR question, regarding the final race of the Chase the Cup next week.

I work with a huge NASCAR fan and when he came into the office yesterday morning, I ask him what he thought about last week’s race in Phoenix.   Now, keep in mind that I couldn’t watch any of the race because I was working the sidelines of the Seahawks game.  But Stu, my co-worker filled me in on what he liked and didn’t like about the race.

Then I said “Next week, it’s a big one, winner take all for the Cup.  What do you think?”

“It’s going to be close, but I don’t like Hamlin that much.  He’s too much of a whiner for me.  I’d like to see Jimmy Johnson win because it would be cool if he could win a 5th straight Cup. No one’s done that before.”

“Hmm,” I said. “good point”

At that point, Stu looked at me and said “By the way, look at you talking NASCAR.  Nice!”

I couldn’t stop smiling.  It was my own Talk Sporty success story but more than that, it helped solidify my relationship with a co-worker.  Stu enjoys talking about racing but there aren’t many people in our office who enjoy that sport as much as he does.  My question gave him a chance to share his passion and I couldn’t help but notice he was particularly nice and helpful the rest of the day.
